How to spark conversation

When it feels that it’s like you’re pulling teeth to get your loved one to divulge any thoughts or feelings, a relationship can feel very lonely. Healthy relationships don’t necessarily have to include deep serious topics every day, but feeling connected can take intention and it’s worth the effort!   

One way to value your relationships is to process your day together. This daily connection can reignite friendship and kindle romance. After 37 years of marriage, we still feel like we are getting to know each other. Exploring the layers of understanding one another is a worthwhile investment. 

Implementing the four L’s has been a practical way to make each other feel heard. Whether it’s a regular ritual, or naturally sparked within spontaneous conversations, these four topics are worth talking about.  

  1. LOVE: This is something I loved about my day

  2. LOW: One of the more challenging or hurtful moments was…

  3. LAUGH: This is something that made me laugh

  4. LEARN: Today, I learned…

As we have been sharing moments of working through these four topics, we have found ourselves feeling closer. Some of the most simple things in life aren’t necessarily profound, but highly productive. We pray for closeness and togetherness to be yours - for you and your family!
