The comfort of being covered

There have been moments when I was seriously overwhelmed about my life story. If I were to write the script, I would love the opportunity to omit the chapters where I made huge mistakes. I would love to have the assurance that this will end well, and my life won’t be deemed a tragedy.

Being thankful when it seems most desperate has been the turnaround point for me. Is it challenging to be thankful when I’m bombarded with regrets? Do I wish I would have made different choices? Do I wish I would have responded differently, but now it’s too late? The key point to this is, yes! It is too late! You have to stop asking yourself “why” and begin asking “what now”.

There may be a failure in your life and you may be at a deep point of discouragement but your Father wants to cover you.

I have come to love the voice of God as He brings new revelation to places in my heart where I need hope and a new perspective. As my regrets are given to God, I discover a deeper trust and strength in Him. I invite the comforter, the Holy Spirit to bring me true rest. In the “middle” of your life story, the questions can seem much more prevalent than any answers, but there is a truth about God’s character that remains constant:

  • His eternal plan protects me

  • His friendship vindicates me

  • His presence is my safe and calm retreat

We are in partnership with the King of kings, we are not alone. The One who designed us created us is very present with us. We don’t have to be stressed and overwhelmed by the pressures and responsibilities that surround us, we can rest in His grace as He covers us. He goes before us and makes a way for us and even prepares a feast for us in the presence of our enemies.

Your Father in heaven has you covered. There may be a failure in your life and you may be at a deep point of discouragement but your Father wants to cover you. Imagine His arms around you, His peace surrounding you, and His protection guarding your heart.

Thankfulness will flow easily from your heart as you know the profound unfathomable comfort of God through the Holy Spirit. Whether it’s a disappointment, weariness, sickness or a relationship meltdown, we all need comfort, and God knows you so intimately, that He will custom-design comfort just for you.

Here’s a great prayer to get you started:

“Holy Spirit, comfort me. I give you my regrets, disappointments and my losses. Sometimes I don’t think I can keep on living with this pain, but because You live, I choose life. Establish a thankful heart in me! I choose to remember the countless times you have shown me your faithfulness. I’m thankful for happy memories!

You are faithful. Thank you that I am covered. You promise that “no good thing will you withhold from those who walk uprightly.” When things pass me by and don’t turn out, I accept that you know what’s best. I will be thankful that you are the beginning and the end. I trust you.”

“I waited patiently for the Lord to help me, and he turned to me and heard my cry. He lifted me out of the pit of despair, out of the mud and the mire. He set my feet on solid ground and steadied me as I walked along. He has given me a new song to sing, a hymn of praise of our God. Many will see what He has done and be astounded. They will put their trust in the Lord.” (Psalm 40:1,2,3)
